Text Box: The Mustang students have been showing what they are made of these past weeks. A positive attitude and smile are normal sightings in our classes as we power through the standards. The CAT-6 test better be aware…..our students are ready! Here is just a snapshot of what the itinerary looks like in March and April.
Science- During the fourth grading period, students will be studying Isaac Newton and his three laws of motion. The students will participate in the Newton Olympics, and they will make comic strips demonstrating their understanding of physics concepts.
US History- Students will be having a Northern Reform Communities' Town Hall Meeting with topics including: Public Education, Utopian Communities, Anti-Slavery or Abolitionist Movement, The Temperance Movement, Women's Labor Reform, and the Women's Rights Movement. We will also be working on a project about the Mexican American War.
Algebra- Students are working with two areas; system of equations and exploring polynomials. Topics include graphing systems of linear equations on a coordinate plane to find the solution (as an ordered pair (x, y)); solving systems of equations using methods such as substitution, elimination using addition and subtraction, elimination using multiplication then addition; an graphing systems of inequalities on a coordinate plane. While exploring polynomials, we will be adding, subtracting monomials and polynomials, dividing monomials; determining the degree of a polynomial and re-writing a polynomial descending and ascending order.
English-Poetry will be flowing out of the Mustangs’ souls the next coming weeks. Learning how to create, analyze, and memorize poems will be our main focus. Grammar will include learning how to use subject-verb agreement correctly and how to punctuate properly.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Mrs. Linda Hermle

Douglass Librarian

Linda Hermle was born to be a librarian, and she discovered this when she started helping out in a classroom and liked being around students.  While helping students is something Mrs. Hermle does flawlessly, books help make her job complete.  Mark Twain continues to be her favorite author, and his classics, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Fin, remain some of her most cherished novels. Adventure and mystery novels make up her library at home.

Before becoming a librarian, Mrs. Hermle went to Sac City College and Sacramento State University.  She remains a King’s fan and likes rock and pop music.  Mrs. Hermle can be seen dining on Italian food and seafood at her favorite restaurant, Macaroni Grill.  After dinner, Mrs. Hermle might just head to Baskin Robbins for a scoop of Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream- a definite must on a hot day.
