Text Box: The fourth grading period is coming to an end and the Hornet students continue to work hard to reach the standards that have been set out by the state and our school district. Please continue to monitor your child’s progress by talking to their teachers and checking their report card. Report cards will be distributed to the students March 10th. It is imperative that your child make up any F he or she may have in Math or English. If these F’s are not made up it will result in your child not being eligible for promotion and mandated to go to summer school. The Hornet team is excited to start the last two grading periods and get your child ready to go to the high school. Please make sure you contact your child’s teacher if you feel that they are having any problems with their academics.

English
Ms. Van's English class is currently wrapping up Chapter 5 on the elements of style and moving on to learn about Poetry. This grading period, they wrote Descriptive Essays about their favorite place, in which they had to incorporate figures of speech and imagery into their writing. Students who did a particularly fantastic job during Grading Period 4 are Farrukh Ershad, Kuldip Gosal, Eric Bryant, Marina Luevano, Jackie Delgado
Mrs. Flaming's 1st period class has been studying plot and characters. They also worked very hard writing their own personal narratives. Top students included Yesenia Carrillo, Veronica Hernandez, Jasmin Alvarez, Salvador Martinez, and Andrea Tovar. Students in 7th period English have been studying literary devices and poetry. Their next essay will be a response to a poem. Top students in this class were Julio Alvarado, Stephanie Camargo, Erik Jensen, and Lizbeth Sandoval. Keep up the good work!
History
In Mr. Bullock’s United States History classes we just finished our Andrew Jackson Project. For this project students had to examine both the positive and negative conText Box: tributions of our seventh President. After researching Jackson each student created a “hero plaque” that commemorated Jackson’s positive and heroic qualities. Students then created a wanted poster that displayed Jackson’s negative and hurtful actions. Many outstanding projects were created. Karl Maahs, Andrea Tovar, Laura Turold, and Farrukh Ershad were among the students who went above and beyond to create excellent projects.
We will finish the fourth grading period on March 3rd with a test covering Manifest Destiny, Reform Movements, and Jacksonian Democracy. Science
Yuktirat's Physical Science Class
The nutrition project for this grading period had students tearing food labels off packages to discover the biochemicals that the foods provided for their bodies. From nutrition we began to discover the forces that cause motion. A lab on friction had student testing different materials by rolling hot wheels' down ruler ramps. This lead to student's to predict the type of material that should be used on escape routes to slow down semi-trucks with failed breaks.
Science Club meets every other Wednesday in B-10. Join the mission to Mars team as we train for our end of the year field trip on June 5th.
