Pre-algebra – The 5th grading period

 

Chapter 9 Test: Students must pass with a “C” or better.

Topics include: Ratios, proportions and percents.

Tip: Of all the chapters covered in pre-algebra, Chapter 9 has the most real-life applications.

 

Examples:

q       If you can buy 10 pencils for $.89, how much would 25 pencils cost?

q       On a blueprint for a house, the dimensions of the kitchen are 2.75” by 5.5”. What are the dimensions of the real kitchen if the scale is 1”=10ft.?

q       They withhold 15% of your paycheck for tax purposes, how much would they withhold if your paycheck is $2500.00?

Chapter 12 Test: Geometry revisited. Topics include finding perimeters, areas, surface areas, and volumes of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional geometric objects. This unit involves work with formulas.

q       How far is it to walk around a rectangular park that is 300 yards long and 200 yards wide?

q       How much wrapping paper do you need for a gift box with dimensions 9in. X  6in.?

q       How many yards of concrete do you need to pour a driveway with dimensions 8in. X 50ft.?
