Performance Assessments

  • Chapter 4 Test: Students must pass at a “C” or better

Preparations for fractions:  Topics include prime factorization, greatest common factor (GCF), least common multiple (LCM), simplifying fractions, exponents and multiplying and dividing monomials.

Tip: This unit makes a transition from whole number fractions to fractions that include monomials.

Examples:

What is the biggest number that divides evenly into 18 and 24? (GCF)  Answer: 6

What is the smallest number that 18 and 24 divide evenly into? (LCM) Answer: 72

  • Chapter 5/6 Decimal Test: Students must pass chapter 5/6 Decimal test with a “C” or better.

Topics include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals, as well as solving equations with negative and positive decimal numbers called rational numbers.

Tip: The next two units in grading period 3 cover fractions and decimals.  The Glencoe text mixes fractions and decimals in chapter 5 and 6.  We pull out all of the sections in chapters 5 and 6 that involve decimals and work with these first.  Students will then take a chapter test just on decimal facts.  Unlike sixth grade, students will need to solve equations involving negative and positive decimals. We will then return to chapter 5 and 6 again to work exclusively with fractions.

·        Chapter 5/6 Fraction Test: Students must pass chapter 5/6 Fraction test with a “C” better.

Topics include adding, subtracting multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers.  As with the unit on decimals, this chapter includes solving one-step equations with negative or positive fractions or mixed numbers.
